The DPD Ireland integration for Shopify
Your DPD account, your rates — EirLink does the paperwork.
EirLink prints DPD labels for your Shopify orders through your own DPD Ireland account: the same dashboard, batch flow, and tracking sync as the An Post integration, with DPD as the carrier.
You connect the API credentials DPD issues for your account. Postage bills directly to your DPD account, and EirLink adds nothing on top.
How the DPD connection works
- You connect the API user, password, and customer account code DPD issues for your account. They are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and can be deleted at any time.
- EirLink generates the DPD pre-advice and label for each shipment, so parcels are announced to DPD before the driver arrives.
- Tracking numbers sync back to Shopify and the order is marked fulfilled, exactly as with An Post labels.
- You can run An Post, DPD, GLS, UPS, DHL Express and FedEx side by side and choose the carrier per order, or let automation rules choose for you.
DPD's onboarding step, honestly
DPD requires every new integration to complete a short test phase against its pre-production system before its Credit Services team approves live shipping. EirLink is built around that: your DPD connection starts in the pre-production environment, you print the test labels DPD asks for, and once DPD approves, you switch the connection to live.
Pre-production shipments never notify your customers and never mark real orders fulfilled, so you can complete DPD's checks without touching live orders.
Mixing carriers
Plenty of Irish merchants split traffic: post-friendly parcels through An Post, heavier or time-sensitive ones through DPD. EirLink's automation rules pick the carrier, service, and sender address from the order's weight and destination, and you can always override per order at label time.
Connect DPD to your store
- 1Get API credentials from DPD. Ask your DPD Ireland account manager for API access: an API user and password plus your customer account code.
- 2Add them to EirLink. Paste the credentials into EirLink Settings. The connection starts in DPD's pre-production environment.
- 3Complete DPD's test pack. Print the sample labels DPD requires. Pre-production shipments never notify customers or fulfil real orders.
- 4Go live. Once DPD Credit Services approves, switch the connection to live and ship real orders on your own DPD account.
Quick answers
Do I need my own DPD Ireland account?
Yes. EirLink creates labels through the API credentials DPD issues for your account, and DPD bills postage directly to you at your own rates.
Why does DPD start in a pre-production environment?
DPD requires new integrations to pass a short test phase before its Credit Services team approves live shipping. EirLink runs this against DPD's pre-production system, and pre-production shipments never notify customers or mark real orders fulfilled.
Does DPD tracking sync back to Shopify?
Yes. When a DPD label is created the tracking number is pushed to Shopify, the order is marked fulfilled, and your customer gets their shipping-confirmation email.
Can EirLink choose the carrier automatically?
Yes. Automation rules select the carrier, service, and sender address from the order's weight and destination, and you can override the choice on any order before the label is created.
